Default Coolant Airlock

Hi all, I've recently purchased a Xc60 with D4 engine. I found some oil in the header tank and I am thinking it is unlikely to be head gasket but could be the oil cooler. But I think it could be that the previous owner may have put oil in the header tank to instead of the engine! Anyway I have flushed the system out with a hose pipe. Now I am going to put a coolant flusher in the system. However I put 4 litres of water in and that's all it will take I have run the car upto temperature and taken it for a drive but it wont go down. Could I have that much air in the system? Is there a bleed point I dont know about? Any help appreciated. Thanks

What mileage has the car done? Head gasket on my D4 went at 50k. Mine started as unexplained sporadic coolant loss, but it turned out to be the head gasket. It appears to be an uncommon issue, but not unheard of.

It's done 105k I dont think it is head gasket. Possible oil cooler. More concerned about the possible airlock I may have unless 5 litres of anti freeze can really stay in the engine when the rad and hoses are totally empty.

You must use a vacuum pump and tap adapter kit on these systems to remove all the air , then allow it to suck in the coolant .. You can buy these kits now but you need an air compressor to attach to produce the vacuum .
It is exactly the same process as when filling an AC system .

This is the type of Kit :

The VEA engines have a very complex cooling system with passages and small bore pipes , and water valves everywhere , which makes it essential to use these kits , they are compulsory Tools for volvo approved workshops .
