Hi chaps

Anyone done the gibbons method on their autobox with an oil extractor? I've bought the pela 6500 or 6000 whichever it is and the smallest tube won't go all the way down the dipstick tube. Just wondering what size (OD) tube I should buy. What a pain in the backside!

I bought this thinking it will be so much easier than jacking the car up each time and taking the undertray off etc, but got scuppered straight away, doh!

Sack that, just managed to do it, just needed more of a wiggle to get it in the right direction. Seems to be working a treat, I've jacked the rear of the car up slightly as I read that you get more oil out of the box. I'll report back how much Comes out.

Also a tip, I bought some super strong neodymium magnets from eBay, stuck one on the drain plug, seems to have caught plenty more than the tiny magnet that's built into the plug.

How did you stick the magnet on? Or does it hold itself?

Yes the magnet just sticks onto the drain plug (it's steel).

I got about 3.1 litres out which is very similar to what I get out through the drain plug. Much easier with the oil extractor, highly recommend it!

Hang one of your neodymium magnets in the power steering reservoir.
The amount of metal fuzz it catches might surprise you.
I used copper wire to fashion my hanger.

That's a great idea, I'll try it out. How did you attach the wire to the cap?

I thought the Gibbons method was the one where you attach a hose to the cooler return pipe and then flush through new fluid a few times?
And ive only ever been able to release 2.6L i think it was

To yoda960: Fancy me giving advice or instruction to a yoda!

The PS reservoir dipstick is part of the cap and is a blade of plastic.
Drill a small hole through it above the FULL mark where the plastic is wider.
No drill? Heat a steel wire and melt a hole.
My super magnet is ring shaped....copper is east to bend....done.
Had my magnet been a lump I would've made a basket.

NOTE: My '02 produced more fuzz that the '07.

Apologies, quite right! Don't know why I had gibbons method in my head,I think I read about it so many times then chickened out doing it as I didn't want it to clean out a huge load of crud all at once. I've been doing loads of drain and fills and it's been going great, slowly cleaning all the crud out
