You did it right first.

I'm able to do the job by my own, withough a helper.
Way more easy with a helper, nevertheless. If the helper is very calmly, a nervous one isn't a helper.
The way you try, all together in, will bent the chrome even more than its bent now.

I assume I need string on both sides of the slot for the metal trim?
