Default auto box clunk

hi all

got a C70 auto

when i select reverse from park it clunks quite noticably/worryingly

drives without issues.

the top bulkhead mounting had a lot of play, so i replaced it with a yellow(uhm i know)

there is a lot less play in the engine but it still clunks

my mate has a new autobox car and it clunks a bit so i may be worrying over nothing.

Thanks

Try selecting D (drive) first before R (reverse). Also check your Automatic Gearbox fluid level is ok.
I had a 51reg V70T5 auto that did that, but only when the engine and gearbox oil were cold. No problem once the oil reached normal running.temperature.

You MAY have "A BIT" of Play in yer Drive Shafts/CV Joints ....Going from Reverse to Drive you are Reversing the Torque on the Drive Shafts (going from Clockwise in Reverse to Anti Clockwise in Drive)

As has been said above ... I NEVER go from "R" to "D" "Straight thru" I always leave it a sec in "N" to allow the Drive shaft to stop Rotating in a "Given" direction.

Indeed you get the rotation change but whether its clockwise to anti clockwise depends upon which side of the car you are stood - Mike
