Default Noisy Auto

Have just bought a 2001 X 2.4 170BHP (I think)auto. Getting a bit of noise and vibration at around 2000 RPM mostly in 2nd and 3rd gears when the engine is under a bit of strain IE going up hill. The car has 83,000 miles. Pretty sure noise is coming from the transmission.

Also what is the life span of the AW5 auto box? Have seen a lot of complaints on the T6 and the 2.9 auto they seem to give up at around 100K. My car has had one owner from new and has a comprehensive Volvo history with every service on the dot.
