That probably applied to the far more exciting older T5's with the high pressure 'grin including' 19T turbo's

The early 850 and V70 models with cable throttles were absolutely hilarious. Even the P2 model V70/S60 T5s were pretty comical with their "nothing... nothing... BOOM" power delivery that was so completely inappropriate for a flabby FWD barge.

Whilst I do quite like the immediate acceleration of the S40 T5, I do think I'd prefer a little more top end.
I know there are various modifications I can do to keep intake temps down and sustain the feeling of torque just a little bit more past 5,000rpm. You can't have it all with a small turbo, but I just need a teeny bit more top end and I think I'll be satisfied. I think the benefit of instant acceleration for the small turbo in the real world outweighs the benefits of sustained high rpm/top end power unless you're sat on the autobahn every day. It is actually better for the autobahn cruising as well, lower pickup is great in these cars which makes it much better to drive rather than having to shift down to get that power. Dont the auto bahn plenty of times and the way these pickup to go faster is great. I think it was mentioned earlier but has your car been mapped? the standard T5 power you get bored of quite easily but if you are after more top end all your problems would be solved with a simple map, this will completly change the car.

of the " real" T5 engine . If your car is a 2008 or later the polestar software restores it to 260 bhp ...

Only advantage is they allow you to keep your warranty, but given all ours our way out now you'd be crazy to pay Volvo that.

The car is fast as stock, and below 100mph it keeps my colleagues e46 330ci in check.... My previous (slightly newer) S60 2.0T has max bhp at 5,500 rpm and the engine felt a bit more lively than the 2.5T at the top end due to the extra 500rpm when max power cut in, although it was only 180bhp Last edited by T5R92011; Aug 20th, 2019 at 09:25. |
