Default Headlight unit replacement query

Hi there,

Hoping someone can shed some light on this.

I've replaced both headlights. As part of the process I had to transfer the headlight electric leveling motor to the new unit replacing the manual adjuster that came with them.

Parking in front of a glass windowed building I can see that one of the headlights is clearly pointing up/dazzling.

Yes I can point it down with the switch but my question is - how do you adjust it down without using the switch (I want the switch to be in the default 0 position)? I can see a horizontal right/left adjuster but not a adjuster in addition to the electric leveling motor for up/down.

Note that the car is in for it's MOT next week and I did mention that it might need adjustment so I am not hoping to have this perfect now - but am slightly concerned that it is not adjustable and that the manual adjuster may need to be put back in.

Many thanks

Is everything put together as it should, including the bulb? The slightest bit off and it will point up the treetops.

As I remember it, when you take the manual levelling out, the light assembly itself svivels up and down, so should not be out of adjustment when you attach the electric levelling on to it.

Maybe when you popped the adjuster rod into its socket, the reflector popped off one of its mounts?
Does the reflector feel wobbly?

If so, you need to take the glass off from the front (easiest if you remove the whole unit), by undoing the clips, and then you should see the mount that I am talking about, and pop it back on.

That would be my theory as well, but it could be the light bulb not seated. Either way, I am sure it can be fixed easily and without cost

Hi smarkc, I have had the same problem with my 98 V70. I have no idea how to post links so have a look at my threads of 2nd January this year under "Headlight adjustment" and thread of 13th February this year "horizontal headlight adjustment". As the levelling switch moves the beams up and down it indicates that the rods are connected to their sockets.
Try adjusting the offending h/light beam down with a 6mm allen key. The hexagonal adjuster is at the back of the h/light. Hope this helps. jack.

Did you extend the operating rod (on the levelling motor) fully before fixing it to the reflector?
You should also be able to manually adjust using an allen key on the motor

Thank you to everyone. There was an adjuster on the levelling motor itself. (thanks Jack) Mine was finger tight and was easy to adjust.

Thank you so much - that's a weight off my mind!

Could I ask how to swap the electric adjuster on to a manually adjusted headlamp please?

Hi Tetleysmooth, do you have the h/light levelling switch on your dash.
