Default Underbody rust proofing/Dinitrol

Hello,
Following on from Martin's recent exhaust hanger rust post I have now contacted a company about professionally rust proofing the underside of my '70.
The product used is Dinitrol and is a four day procedure.
Now my question is: has anyone had this done before?
The underneath of my '70 is not looking it's best anymore and as such am taking these steps. This has been on my mind for a few years now and Martin's post has me thinking...
Are there any contraindications to having this work done?
Cheers.

I'll be most interested in hearing how you get on.

I had a look under my 2008 V70 today and was rather depressed to find that there are more areas starting to rust than on the older car. I should probably consider it too. Maybe they don't make 'em like they used to?

Hello,
I'll gladly keep you posted. As far as I can gather they take pictures of the work but an additional costing exists to have many photographs taken and put onto a DVD.
I have actually booked the car in (end of the month) but am going to see them for a tentative look around the underbody before the booking proper.
My main concern is the removal of Volvo's factory protection but at 22 years should I really worry?
Cheers
Edit: I think you are right about not being made the same. They have just finished work on a '64 plate '40 (sounded more preventative) and an '11 plate XC90. Apparently after removing all the plastic underbody gubbins from the XC90 there was a lot of big rot which surprised them.

An S70, won't usually rot. The galv is so good, I can't imagine that 2008 will be around long enough to worry about it.

Cars after about 2002/3 have obsolescence built in. The dealers make more money out of servicing a car than selling it these days. The bills will kill it, not rot. Leave it.

My C70 is undersealed, been done at some point previous to my ownership. The black substance thing, no idea what it is but its an even coating.

It looks good and all the sections appear to be protected.

A bit of waxoil or some ACF50 is what I use on any odd bits.

I know its too far away from you, but I had my 940 professionally done with DINITROL almost three years ago by Rochdale Undersealing near me yes it took about four days and they provided a loan car, the procedure was, firstly all the underside was steam cleaned, any rust found was treated, all the wheel arch liners were removed, all the underside was then treated with the Dinitrol, along with all the box sections, inside all the doors, inside sections of both the bonnet and boot lid, a lengthy process but I think worth it, just ask your company exactly what they will do before you proceed. David.

I've used dinitrol products a fair bit, their stuff is good/excellent. The thing is I'm not a fan of how some commercial places do their undercoating, at least here they spray the thick rubberized coating everywhere and depending on where you get it done they might use the thin oil based stuff inside the doors. The problem with the thick stuff is if there is any rust under it it's just going to block it out of sight and make the problem worse in the long run. Even if you spray it on a completely rust free surface with time it's going to chip/fall off/wear out somewhere and water is going to enter on that spot. If you are unlucky the undercoating prevents that water from getting back out properly = rust everywhere.

After it's sprayed on it's on there. Good luck trying to wipe it out if need be. Some harsh cleaners that car wrappers use seem to soften it up to a point where it actually wipes off but no such luck with regular cleaners I find. My opinion is, in the long run I'd rather have no undercoating at all if the other option is what I've written above.

That said what I'd recommend instead is Dinitrol ML. You can spray on rust, you can spray it on a rust free surface, you can spray it on just about everything under the car. It will slow down existing rust quite well. With a tube extension you can get the stuff in every darn cavity under the car you can find and it will spread quite well. Also inside doors, fenders etc. Considering how thin it is, it actually clings on surprisingly well and spraying it on doesn't that a huge amount of time.

So what's the catch? There are several. It won't be as permanent of a solution so you'll have to reapply it more often, I do my cars once or twice a year. Your car will drip and smell for a day or two. It's a somewhat messy job, even on a lift.

Some additional notes, I greatly dislike rubberized undercoatings so I'm biased and I do not do undercoatings professionally so I'm just a semi-informed nobody on the subject. Your mileage may vary.

I didn't think the S70/V70 were galvanised.

Hello,
I believe the doors are galvanised but not sure of anywhere else.
Cheers
