I followed above as I had same problems.

1. Reset Sensus system to factory settings
2. Inserting a USB with a map of Israel (successful)
3. Update maps of Europe (EU_904_1433) over the top (successful)
4. UK maps still not showing correctly
5. Disconnect / reconnect battery to resolve (apparently the Sat Nav module needs power cycled)
6. All sorted!

Thumbs up Got update to work only after "reset"

I struggled to get maps on 2017 V40 to update. It would just ask for USB disk 1 and then hang. I read all the threads here, which were comforting in a way, but didn't resolve the issue. I tried different USB brands and sizes and formatting - all hit the same issue. For months forced to use google maps or waze on mobile phone.

Finally got it to work today. I used a 32Gb USB, formatted as FAT32. The breakthrough, however, was to do the reset of all vehicle settings and then to restart and stick the USB in - it then, hey presto, started to update! I was about to book it into Volvo dealer to investigate, so am very relieved that it now all works. Took an hour or so to finish the update on the car, but this all worked, even though it paused when car was not in use - it just resumed each time.

Since my previous post, Maps have started to show me in wrong location!
It's getting more and more wrong as the weeks go by. As a result it is now showing me 90 miles from my location!
Car was in garage today for MOT and diagnostics showed error in car update software but maps version correctly up to date. Normally, this is corrected via Wi-Fi and updating the system software. However, turns out my Wi-Fi wont even attempt to connect to anything at all. From the From Settings / Communications / Wi-Fi screen it does nothing when I press Wi-Fi.
So my issue, does anyone know how to update it without Wi-Fi? I couldn't see a link from Volvo website and I don't trust the dealer to tell me the truth. They want crazy money to just look at it.

The process I am using is to copy the map update to hard disk, then using a newly formatted FAT32 32Gb USB, I copy from the hard disk to the USB. I don’t use the quick format option, so it is a full format of the USB.

I then use the Sensus Update ‘Check Download’ on the USB, which passes successfully.

When I insert the USB into the car I get the update ongoing screen and a progress bar that shows some progress by moving along approx. 1 cm. Then it fails with the “Map update failed. USB unreadable” message.

I have tried 2 different USBs with the same result, the second one is a ScanDisk was bought new on Friday, so I know the USB is OK.

Any Ideas what is going on?
you must download the file directly to the empty USB as it says in the instructions...
also download the whole of europe including UK. that's the most trouble-free way...
