Default Afternoon Folks

Just a introduction of my self. My name is Andy and just got myself a silver v70 1999 2.5 with 50200 miles on the clock. After having my 54 plate V70 totalled in accident, not my fault.
I'm looking to pick some brains ref wheel and tyre sizes. I have Antlia 15 inch on it at mo and was wondering if the spare set of 17 inch Amalthea's would fit, they have 225/45/r17 on them.

If they do, i assume they do but waiting for rain to stop before i go and try them. Does anybody have them on they V70 99 and what tyre sizes are they using? do they rub or another problem.

Regards
Andy

Hi Andy,

Thats quite a find at that mileage, delighted that you're also interested in these older Volvos

I've just looked up the Amalthea wheel and it is a 17x7.5" with a 49mm offset. I have a set of Comets fitted to my '97 S70 (so the same basic body/chassis as your V70) and these are also 17x7.5" but with a 43mm offset, so 6mm difference.

The tyres on mine are 225/45x17 and they fit ok, but they do rub at full lock.

A few links for you to browse

Hope that helps

EDIT - I've just found out that there are two sizes of Comet wheel - 17x7 and 17x7.5 (called Comet 'C') and as I'm not sure what mine are, you should disregard my comments about them fitting ok - Just in case mine are 7 inchers! Sorry about that - I only found out by reading through the accessories catalogue on that website!

Good looking colour on your S70.

Thank you for your time

Indeed, 20 year old cars shouldn't accelerate like that

No problem, hope someone can give you a definitive answer. The rub is only at the front on full lock, so if you're happy with a reduced turning circle you should be ok - BUT having said that, when the time comes for replacements, I might revert to 205s or 215s...

Andy, I had the exact wheels and size tyres on my 2000 S70, I can confirm the fronts rub the inner guard. The turning circle was greatly increased, after 18 months I have now returned to standard 15s. The road holding and handling with the larger Michelin PS4 tyres was far better but the manouvering in the city a problem.
Cheers from Oz. Peter
