Here is a link to the dipstick kit I have fitted, all genuine bits.
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/313783997...mis&media=COPY Regards the AC, so I had use of a machine through work however my car had been to a Volvo specialist before I decided to have a look myself. So I hooked the machine up to car, the low port is hidden below the scuttle and is a pain to get to without removing the wipers but do able just fiddly. Now I’ve heard of adaptors used so the car can be charged on the high port as it’s easier to get to but I don’t advise this at all. Should always fill the low side. So basically as described above recovered the gas, little oil and not enough gas came out. Vacuumed the system and leak tested. Regased to the correct amounts as per the label in the engine bay and the Volvo website. Note on the Volvo website when looking at an S80 it gave 60ml for oil. But that is for a 2016 which would be a 4 cylinder VEA engine. I found a 2014 v70 5 cylinder listing 100ml which is basically the same car. I also had the modified pipe fitted which had cured the main source of my noise but the whine remained. I put the rest of the whine down to incorrect gas amount when the pipe was fitted and re gassed. The machines data base had 650 grams in it as do some online charts. If the garage had set it to full auto it would get the wrong amount so make sure to take note of the engine bay sticker. Hope that helps

That's great. Thanks for the link. Was it difficult to fit? Access looks difficult at first glance..

Not difficult at all, 15 mins max. Just pull out the grey dipstick, grease the two green seals and fit the new tube. You must use both. Fit that into the hole and you will see where the bolt has to go. As others have said the threads might want cleaning but mine was fine and screwed straight in. Job done. I fitted it all from above just removed the engine cover for extra access. I have my oil level on 2 of the XX which I find is one bar below full on the digital read out. Full on the digital gauge shows as XXX on the dipstick.

Could also be worth checking the overunning alternator pulley on an engine that's running a little noisy to make sure it hasn't seized.
Also from what I understand the reason the sump is filled up with diesel is due to the engine being stopped whilst the car is doing a dpf regen. Extra fuel is pumped in to the engine to get the higher temperature required to clean the dpf. Stopping the engine during a regen leaves the extra fuel in the cylinders that soak through to the sump. To stop my car doing this I use an inexpensive Bluetooth obd tool and an app on my phone to monitor when my car is doing a regen. I then either drive the car until it's complete or leave the engine ticking over until the dpf temp drops back to normal and then turn off the engine. The app is also useful for other parameters like keeping an eye on coolant temps because we don't have a gauge and it can read and clear engine fault codes. |
