The Power Pulse technology works only in 1st and 2nd gear up to 18 mph. So it doesn't help at all when you are moving at any speed above and push the accelerator hard.

I am sitting in the dealership right now waiting for the PP hose to be replaced. We have the car a month and it seems that the hose was burst when we bought it. I'm looking forward to the drive home to see the difference!!

Yes there is a noticeable difference for sure. The take off is way better with turbo lag clearly eliminated. I'm very happy. I love feeling the 4 wheels biting hard as she surges forward from a standing start.

But how about this for an apparent side effect... The only major negative I have found with my car so far is the fuel economy. I had noticed that it was drinking diesel and the mpg figures were extremely poor. For example, on the drive down to the dealership (42km) it returned 35mpg but on the way home it returned 41mpg. It Is motorway and dual carriageway all the way and I used cruise control for the whole journey. Half the trip was cruising at 125kph and half was at 105kph.

I have done about 6 motorway economy test runs on a defined route at 125kph for about an hour each time and failed to get above 36mpg on any. I did one run at 110kph and it returned 42.8mpg. I will re run these tests with the PP hose fixed and see if the results are different. I will be surprised but delighted if they are.

I'm looking for a used Xc60 at present and although I'm definitely wanting the D5 power I'm still not sure about the power pulse hose issue. My nearest dealer said they've been told to change one free on Selekt and that's it.

I'm tempted to get a D4 and remap.

ReliAble until you make a claim and notice no tuning company warrants any engine/transmisson etc when it goes wrong despite every company assuring you he ‘safe’ it all is!

Hose is cheap & looks straightforward to change if it fails, I will do my own if it fails when out of warranty

Not sure where you get that info from? its not what's in the Volvo spec for power pulse - it works every time hard throttle is used from low revs IF the air tank is charged
