Default Using the XC60 on a space saver

I know the space saver is a get you home/emergency tyre and it is designed for very limited use. I've verified that the kit I have is the correct one, but the wheel is about 4" in diameter smaller when it is laid on top of a full sized tyre. I'm just wondering how the car feels if it has to be used with one fitted, especially on the front axle.

Quite strange and prone to veering off under heavy acceleration and braking, but drive it gently as you should do, you won’t know it’s on. It will get you home...

Seems odd for Volvo to provide one which is so different in diameter. I wonder if there is any space saver which is closer in size to the normal wheels. I guess the problem then lies with the holes in the steel rim for such a wheel. Unless boot space is taken up I doubt a full size spare can be carried.

I wondered the same thing when I fitted my spacesaver to get my wheels powder coated, albeit that I fitted two at the same time which wasn't too bad. I suspect if you fitted a standard Volvo wheel that was smaller and drove anywhere past the "Po-Po" you'd be pulled over and quite possibly charged with something or other, once they thought of something! A strange paradigm from Volvo who are hell bent on providing motoring safety.

I wonder if an XC90 space saver wheel is any larger and fit the hub of an xc60.

The Mk 1 XC90 wheel wont fit properly as it has a larger centre bore.

Yes it's weird...but does the job. Based on the diameter looks like it might snap though! (Obviously won't..)
