Default 2010 D5 - brake assist service and anti-skid/ abs lights on

Hi,

As per subject. The car has just started showing this error when driving. It’s clears after a engine restart. Doesn’t then come on immediately and no real trigger.

Car has just had replacement rear calliper and hose. Could this be low brake fluid ? Or something the garage (non Volvo) did / didn’t do correctly when replacing the calliper and hose?

Thanks

If as the picture below most likely culprit is a front ABS reluctor ring. The front ones are prone to cracking and can easily be seen under the car

Those are the messages, so thanks for the feedback.

Will these not fail though and then trigger the error every time ? As mine is not on all the time. For example today I started without the error and drove for 20 mins or so until
It came on. Then I stopped. It clears and again I can drive without error for 5/10/20 mins until it reappears.

One of my ABS rings has failed, but I've only had the message once.
It depends on how big the crack is in the ring I suppose.
VIDA shows the signal dropping frequently, but obviously not frequently enough to trigger the ABS error.

It resets and shows no fault every time the ignition is switched off although it does log a fault on the ECU. Mine only came on when I reached between 50-60mph

I had those messages intermittently for about 3 months, then one day they stayed on permanently ... cause was a split ABS reluctor ring (Front N/S,) ring replaced problem gone. Worth double checking very carefully.

Hope it helps.

Car was in for service today. They confirmed the split abs ring. They quoted for the work, but not really very clearly. And also suggested it needs steering angle replacement for “around £300-500”

So. Will be trying the local indie.

just to update the thread in case it helps anyone else ...

Local indie Volvo garage quoted £85 to supply and fit the new reluctor ring. All now done and no more warning signs.

That's a nice small bill for an XC90!
