A/C noise when breaking with engine
Hi
I decided to register here and ask for help as all mechanics, AirCondition specialist and volvo services in my neighberhood, show white flag. Car: S80 2008 Engine: 2.0 Flexifuel NOISE I HAVE ON A/C: https://streamable.com/41ts8 Issue started 6-7 month ago. I started to hear strange noise when driving on A/C when car slowed down without unclutching gearbox so I simply stopped to accelerate and car started to slow down. Between, 3,5k and 2k RPM, car started to generate strange noise. I thought it is by broken fan. I have only one fan, for A/C and engine cooler so maybe it has enough. I replaced it but it did not help. I noticed that as soon as I hear noise and turno off A/C, noise immediately stops. WHen turning again A/C in couple seconds, noise is not there. Then I spped up, leave car to brake and i again hear noise between 3.5k rpm and 2k rpm. It does not happen always. Couple times per 10km's. I planned to replace belt, rollers and regenerate power generator as it was loud, so additionally because of this issue, I also regenerated A/C compressor. After replacing what was in bad condition in compressor (it is almost new now), the noise... did not disappear. Then I replaced A/C cooler infront of the car as it was in very bad shape and started to "dissapear" becaus eof rust. After replacing it, including "dryer (?)" that makes coolant clean and dry, the issue... did not disappear. Noise was still there. When I describe this to every mechanic, A/C specialist, even in volvo dealers, nobody wants to take my car as I replaced almost everything... A/C cools fine, no issues with temperature. It does not turn off. Internal fan is fine. The noise is best to listen near passenger legs and it changes in rythm of rpm changes. Someone told be that it can be a valve that converts coolant from liquid to air but this valve is build from... nothing. There is one moving piece of metal and thats all. How it can generate noise that changes in rythm of engine rpm. A/C was loaded with coolant in last month, 4 times (replacing parts), so for sure there is proper size of coolant. My english is not perfect but I hope everyone understood what is the problem and was able to open attached file with noise. I really appreciate any help and hint. Have you checked all the aircon pipes are properly secured? I had a similar issue on a Peugeot years ago that turned out to be a broken pipe clip that allowed one of the pipes to resonate (vibrate) with the engine at certain rpm making a similar noise to the video you attached (and only when aircon was on).

Will check this hint. The worst is that on parking it never happens. If I have good logic, the pipe that in theory resonate, should be AFTER A/C cooler and before Valve. |

Check everything mechanical first like compressor clutch bearing , belts etc . Also check heat shield around turbo or pipes are not vibrating .
What you describe sounds like something vibrating/resonating in time with engine .
