Default Dealer says I need new steering angle sensor ?

Hi

Dealer told me today I need a new sensor as its not working.

I've had an Anti skid message about 3 times after starting the engine (possibly on full lock) in the last 20,000 miles.

Surely if the sensor wasn't working, I would have the warning on all the time ?

They said there wasn't any software updates due.

What happens when it is faulty?

Any thoughts ?

Cheers

those messages are telling you something and dealer has confirmed issue ...most faults are intermittent and this fault will affect your anti yaw control

Mis-aligned tracking will give the anti skid message.
Anyone near you with Vida that you can see the results rather than the dealer telling you the most profitable cure??
Yes i'm cynical of dealers before anyone asks!

I'm going to ask for the error code tomorrow.

If you have any sort of mobile computer, DICE with VIDA can be had off eBay for about £100. There's a thread on here somewhere about the offering Darius has... Worth it's weight in rubber and circuits IMHO

I have this on my s60, checked with vida and it does require a new sensor. the fault message comes and goes and clears when you turn it on and off only to come back when you turn sharply for example parking. A software update can cure the problem as the parameters were altered but if there is an internal fault in the sensor then the only answer is a new one.

Mine has a faulty sensor but it only shows up if you leave it on full lock when parking. Turning it off and on clears the dash message and as I have VIDA then I can clear the on board message. I'm not worried about mine as it is intermittent and have read the car plenty of times with out it present.

had the same thing on full lock whilst reversing onto my drive, although it would clear after driving a couple of hundred metres.
New sensor replaced behind the steering wheel and problem solved, I think it was approx £280

Spoke to the workshop controller today and all he said was it should be replaced, even though it's fine 99% of the time.
I think I'm going to leave it for now and monitor it. If it only plays up on full lock and has happened 3 times in 20,000 miles, I can live with it.

I had a problem where my SAS was on permanent fault for about 6 weeks, was going to get it replaced and the day before booking it fixed itself, go figure not had any further issues for about 4 week now. So I would say you are right by just keeping an eye on it.
