Our first three Volvos (XC90 D5, XC60 D4 and XC60 D5) were all no problem at all - current one is a B4 Diesel - I'm guessing it is more of an issue on later engines as they are tweaked to reduce emissions...

I'm driving my second D4 now, my previous car was a XC60, now I have a V90CC. My brother bought my XC60 at 4 years old and 28,000 miles, and my V90 is 31/2 years old and on 19,000 miles, so both are way under the oft quoted 20,000 miles a year for a diesel. Both cars have never displayed any DPF issues or rising oil indications, I just jump in and drive them. I'm aware of these issues but don't fret about them, nor do I do anything special apart from give the car a run up the local by-pass, 5 miles each way once a month if it's not had a good recent run. I just let the car do it's own thing with regenerations. In 8 years of D4 ownership I've never noticed the car doing a re-gen, I don't specifically look out for it happening.

I check the oil level after each service and the indicator always shows at Max, although I understand it is only 3/4 filled.

Hi Pitvar,
My 2020 V60 D4 has no DPF instrumentation of any sort, no messages, no amber then red warning light, nothing! Some posts in this thread talk about various DPF warnings etc., although I think these seem to be older models. Does your car with the B4 engine have any indication or warning that a DPF is needed or indeed already in progress?

No nothing at all - other than the burning smell and fan over running when we've accidentally stopped the car mid regen!
