Default New brake pads clip

Hi All,

Got a new set of brake pads for the 1.9d s40 today but have a question on them. The box has a clip included which isn't on the ones I'm taking off. Does anyone know if I need it or if I can just chuck it. See picture attached.

Also when I took off the wheel, I could also pull off the disc. I mean there was no screw holding in the disc. Is this normal ?

Thanks !!

The clip is your audible brake wear sensor. You clip it over the corner of the pad (there's usually and indentation where it goes). The idea is that when the pads wear the clip hits the disc and makes a noise. It's a far simpler version of the warning light other cars have. If you service your car regularly you won't need it and I've never fitted them.

No screw is fairly normal too. Sometimes they go AWOL, sometimes they were never there in the first place. Not a big issue an an S40 with studs and nuts, more of a faff on cars with bolts because the disc spins on the hub.

Thank you very much. I was thinking I had missed something and was holding off on doing the other side until I knew. Much appreciated.

I personally choose to not to install it. No particular reason, but I see no point in them as I visually check my brakes every so often and never let them go down to the limit.
