Respray time!
Hi Everyone,
Sorry for not posting on here for ages. I took my Amazon estate off the road about May last year as holes were appearing all over it. It was when I took a friend out in it cruising through the country lanes when went through a medium ish sized puddle which soaked my friends trousers and filled up her handbag, this was the moment when I thought maybe I should do some work on the old girl. Since then I have had to replace the majority of the floors, inner and outter cills, wheel arches, windscreen surround and repair a hole in the roof. So the time is now here for a respray, but what colour? She is currently cream with a black interior but I was thinking more of a dark grey. Does anyone else have any suggestions of what would look good on an estate? Pictures preferable. Here are a few pictures of how it was: Many thanks, Tom. |

My honest opinion looking at that bottom photo would be to keep the same colour, I think it suits the car really well.

Dark grey looks great. Easy clean , looks good even when dusty / dirty (unlike white ) White paint needs to be spot on when applied grey easy to work with.

It is a toss up the colour issue.
First suggestion is stick with originality of the build colour of the car. Otherwise go with a Volvo colour of the era. If you go with graphite grey (which I like) it shows a very good shine/reflection when polished. White always seems flat. Grey does not show dirt, dust and mud too much. |

I really like the colour it already is if I'm honest, I'd stick with it. Looks great in the photos, especially with the wheel are tyre combination, really nice. What wheels are they anyway?
Just a thought, I'm not sure how much detail you're going into with the respray and I'm sure you've planned this already so apologies if its already covered but if you do decide to change the car's colour (grey sounds very nice by the way) will you be stripping it down to the shell so you can paint in the engine bay etc? I’ve seen some cars that have had a colour change which have been painted just up to the shut lines/panel gaps so you end up with the original paint colour still in the engine bay, inside the doors, underside of the bonnet, boot etc. and it ends up looking a bit odd. If you kept the same colour you could avoid this and save a few pennies in the process if you’re on a budget. |

As above a colour change is a massive job and very very expensive and if not done properly IE door shuts under hood ect it will look a bit cheap skate.
But like I said in my first post I really like the colour as it is, grey for me is a very bland colour, metallic graphite is nice but not sure it would suit that car.

Here's a photo of my mate's Amazon estate in grey.
Who can say what colour you want as it's a matter of personal taste?! When I owned the pictured car, it was that really lovely shade of icy blue and my mate went through painstaking decision making to end up with this this. Personally, I hate it! He loves it!

Thanks for the responses. Unfortunately I know the effort it is to change the colour of the car. At the moment everywhere that is cream needs painting again so it shouldn't be too much of a problem. I do like the cream paint, but grey is tempting! I fancy something different. I have seen these two Amazons on the web and cant help but think 'That could be mine!'
The wheels were from a Chevrolet of some sorts, they came from ebay anyway! Just noticed I managed to post this in sales! Sorry I always manage to do this. I don't know if any admin can move the thread over? |

the lower one is satin black, or close to it. Looks ****. Usually used by rat-rodders who think its cool, and want to cover up all their poor preperation.
Very dark colours have to be kept spotless otherwise the car looks filthy. I get it that after all the work thats been done a total respray is needed, pointless doing 85% of it at this stage. My vote is cream. Would look great with red leather. Whites also hide a lot of sins
