normally there are very few issues with this engine. and unless you take the car to some one you can trust, there will be a lot of its this and its that from garages. the only major issue is the pump timeing. it would be nice to no that when you do get the problem resolved what it was. hope you get it sorted soon. mike 850 tdi p box fitted |

I have a 1995 850 TDI with exactly the same problem - reading this thread with great interest.
Most of the time the car is absolutely sweet (170k, looked after). The fault usually occurs when warm. Symptoms are normally significant loss of power, or engine juddering, followed by slow down and finally engine stop with fault light. Switch off ignition, wait a minute, crank engine and often it starts and runs as if nothing had happened. Sometimes it needs a longer wait, and again, and again. Sometimes the fault light remains, other times not (you tell me)! The local Volvo specialist says minimal fault codes are stored in the diesel (yes, he checked and nothing there). I did have some joy awhile back when the problem was getting severe in the summer, by whacking the air sensor meter (no it didn't always work, but I felt better). I've replaced the air control hoses, but the meter is original. A new meter is £300. The kids say I look like Basil Faulty. Like Jen, it's doing my head in! Any ideas folks? Thanks |

the air sensor is attatched to the pipe that comes out of the air intake box, it has a multi plug there . dont hit it lol you will kill it. you can disconect the plug and give it a clean with brake cleaner, but do this with the ignition off, otherwise your lambda light will come on . let the brake cleaner dry then put it back on . mike |
