Default Estimated cost of brake pad/disc change

Morning all,

I have a 2019 S60. Whilst they are not due yet, what would you expect the rough cost of a brake pad and disc replacement to be all round at the main dealer?

I’m on a half decent service plan with my main dealer so I’m trying to work out the costs of any additional serviceable items.
Thanks in advance!

I had the rear pads and discs changed on my V90 at 3 years old, and whilst I can’t remember the exact price I do remember that Volvo only wanted £50 more than Kwik Fit quoted, so I went Volvo. Hope that may help !

Replacement of rear pads only on my XC60 cost just over £200 at the Volvo dealer.

Here's the best way to work it out.

Get prices from Volvo Parts Store for the correct disks and pads.

Then allow about an hour and a quarter for rear and about an hour for the front.

The discounted labour charge at my local dealer is £95 plus VAT. More southerly dealers will charge a higher rate.

That should give you a very good estimate.

And when you get the price for Volvo to change them, bring up Eurocarparts and get the price for your discs and pads there. Minimal effort to change these, about a Saturday morning’s work. At the same time, you can copper grease the wheels so that they don’t corrode onto the discs and properly torque the wheel nuts, together with a good inspection of suspension items, driveshafts, brake lines and callipers. Why not combine with a brake fluid change and a good bleed of the brakes? Could also be timed to coincide with a swap between winter/summer wheels/tyres and if you’re really feeling ambitious, pull out the wheel liners and give the inner wings a good wash and wax while you’re there.

And all of that depends upon the condition of your knees, hips, back and various other parts.

Granted, certainly and I don’t know your personal circumstances. But with two shot knees (common ex-Army issue), a rebuilt shoulder and elbow (good excuse for power tools) and shrapnel in the back of my head (a little sore on cold days) my mechanicing skills are significantly slower and less agile than they used to be. I just take my time, stop often for coffee, plan a job well in advance, make sure I have the right tools for the job and enlist more able help when I need a hand. The satisfaction of having a go, doing a good job and saving a few quid is great though. Even if I do need a rest afterwards...

Thanks guys - doesn’t seem like there’s any abnormally high costs associated.

True about having a crack at it on your own. Might take this up but hopefully when the time comes, it’ll be a nice sunny day. They do say that you can’t have it all but I definitely would dread having a go in the freezing temps of the recent few days

Best thing to do is to ring your dealer and ask for a quote for the job then ask for a customer discount.
