Let me know. Will be pleased if this sorts it.

No good I'm afraid! I have figured out a work-around I reverse until I get a rear tyre slightly up the kerb, then let the car roll forward using gravity and snick it in D while it's moving. This prevents the startup issue.

PPS Parked up a brand new loaner S90 recharge in the same space to charge it (my car went in for a service) and when I did my usual manoeuvre to get out the space (not using my "trick" on purpose) the S90 did the exact same thing. I can only assume the particular sequence of forward and reverse with steering lock winds up the clutch pack in the ERAD (a sort of diff wind-up) and moving it forward again takes more torque than the ERAD can deliver to unwind the ERAD from its predicament. Can't think of any other reason for this strange behaviour.

Bit late to the party, but I very often find if reverse off my drive and quickly knock the gear knob into drive - the ICE kicks in.

If I do it more slowly - just a second or two gap between going from N to D - it's much more like to use the electric drive.

Always been the same.

I'm curious about this one. My daily school run is well within electric range, but every day the ICE kicks in. I thought during the winter it might have been to do with cabin heating (presumably that's electric though), but in the current warm weather it's still doing it. There are a couple of hills where I'd expect to need the ICE, but the display indicates that all-electric is not available at any throttle setting. Sounds like this could actually be an issue, rather than annoying behaviour?

I get this in Hybrid mode (nowhere near the 'ICE line') in my V60 T6 recharge. Sometimes, the engine seems to start for no obvious reason, so I've convinced myself that it must know what it's doing! But it's never done it in Pure, unless I kick down, then the ICE starts to provide acceleration.

If everything is working as it should (cabin heating, ERAD etc) then the ICE should not need to activate when driving in Hybrid mode unless you pass the power threshold between electric propulsion and the ICE start line (unless you have a destination input on your navigation and the system is 'managing' your electric reserves).

If the ICE is activating randomly when driving in Hybrid, it suggests there is something not 100% somewhere that is demanding the ICE to start, be it a request for cabin heating if your fuel/HV coolant heater isnt fully working or something ERAD related that demands additional propulsion from the ICE.

Could be worth a look before warranties expire etc.........

It might also suggest that you drive like a loon and it has to activate the engine for traction control, this was the case with my missus

There is a corner she goes around where the wheel slips on a manhole cover and ICE kicks in, more so in Hybrid, in Pure it allows a bit more slip.

It's definitely not this, I mostly drive like an old fart (can't think why!).

That's not it I'm afraid. I do (very) occassionally drive like a loon, but not in Pure drive mode! And it's not to do with a sat nav destination, as the sat nav doesn't work at the moment (another story for another thread). I thought it might just be to get a bit of temperature into the oil in case I do need the ICE, but perhaps that's wishful thinking.

Thanks for all the responses anyway.
