That cant be correct, if you were to run the preheater for that long before driving, your hybrid battery would be near empty so have almost no electric range. If doing it for that long plugged in, it would cost you quite a bit in electricity at current prices.
I run my preheating for 10-15 mins max and the car is lovely and warm. Yes, the engine block will take longer to warm up fully but I cant see the need. Getting the engine and oil a little bit warm before any engine starting will massively help reduce cold start wear anyway so 2-3 hours of Preheating really seems excessive.
