Correct, final level is set WITH engine running. This is done by getting engine up to a temp range and then pulling out the level plug and catching excess. Luckily the level plug can be reached without having the car up on ramps so easier to get it on level ground when setting level.

Got it!

Tomorrow I will double check the level, mine was 2800ml then in that case so probably not far off.

Is there any way of checking the oil temp? There is no gauge not even for water!

I do have an infra red temp sensor so I can always use that on the sump

Thanks all

Unless you have a copy of VIDA/DICE on hand, you will have to guess at the temp. As I recall a 5-7 minute drive should bring it up to the right range.

I've done 6 litres over two flushes and the oil is looking more red. Will do another 3 litres in a month.

Gearbox seems smoother but unsure if it's te placebo affect, let's hope it saves some fuel

Default 2011 xc70 fluid

Hi Guys, I have been reading all of this and thank you all for posting it,
I have been given the task of buying atf for my father in laws xc70, I have been doing a load of research and I must be honest I am still none the wiser!
I started looking at jws 3309 which seems to be what people use in the tf-80sc which is whats in the car, but 3309 seems to only be listed to 2010, there seems to be a mention of BOT fluid (cant remember the numbers) for later cars and jws3324, neither of which I can really find available let alone any info on,
is there anyone on here that has done a dump on a 2011 d3 that can tell me the exact fluid we need because 2 days of reading etc is time I didn't need to spend for pretty much nothing!!!
The car has over 100k on it and occasionally gives a harsh drive ebgagement when warm, it is still smooth through the gears it's only when d is selected it gives a bit of a kick, maybe very slightly low on fluid or just worn fluid,? anyway we are hoping its only fluid and want to get this done to try it, but can anyone please help with which stuff I need to put in!?

Depending on year there is 2 differant part numbers for oil on the volvo system so am guessing its slightly differant stuff altho it doesn't say on bottles,

When i do them at work i usually use 12-14 litre's and do a proper flush and ive not had one back yet with issues after,

Gearbox oil temp needs to be between 50-60'c to check level

A 2011 car should be on the new low viscosity fluid, aka AW-1.

hi thanks, is this known as anything more common as aw-1 does not seem to come up with a specific oil only general use ones which seem to cover most specs! which do you use? if you can send me a link to what you use then i'd be very grateful
