If you are confident stripping the changer. It may be worth changing the capacitors. My Kenwood had developed an issue fast forwarding, plus slow to change tracks. I've since tested and replaced the capacitors. The problem has now disappeared.

Thanks I have got the changer out of its casing & adjusted the potentiometer, but strictly an amateur at electronics & I wouldn't recognise capacitors, or trust myself to change them. Although as it doesn't work anyway it probably couldn't hurt to experiment. I would need a smaller soldering gun though. How do I know what a capacitor looks like?

These are all capacitors.. The first picture is the more common type. The cylinders, not the chip. The other pictures are the rectangular blocks, which are the round ones in a plastic shell.

They are full of electrolyte and when they get old they can leak or generally give up. The first picture is the more common type. You'll see a line down one side, this denotes the negative. When replacing make sure they go back the right way. You'll need the board out to replace as you'll need access to the rear of the board to remove the solder. If they leak badly the electrolyte will go over the board and corrode it causing many issues.

Easy to replace with basic tools. If you are interested in repairing this sort of stuff, then go on Facebook and look for 'car audio engineer/repair' group. Advice for amateurs like me.

If you can get pics of the ones on your board we can work out what you need. They'll have 2 main numbers. A uf number and a v number. The uf must match, but you can replace with a bigger v number with no problems.

Thank you that is very useful & encouraging info. I might well try it, I have nothing to loose. If I can find out how to post pictures, I will send them once I have got the unit dismantled.

If you are still out of luck. I believe some of the early alpine cd changers will work direct with the Volvo. Has to be an 'M bus' changer though.
I've not tried this out though. If I remember I'll look through my stuff. I think I have a spare alpine changer, though not sure if it's m bus or ai net. I also have the original radio from my V70. Whether I have a cable is another matter.
Pity I don't have access to my 240 at the moment as that certainly has an m bus changer in it.
I need to pop the Kenwood out of the v70 to fiddle with the wires to test the eq soon. So I'll see if it has a changer cable built in.
