Default delay question again

I know this is a long running question , but I've just had another sphincter clenching moment that caused me to relaunch this appeal, usual scenario ,gently entering a roundabout , all clear to right, then a saxo appears well over the speed limit , so I gently apply more throttle and the xc stops accelerating for the mandatory couple of seconds then takes off like a rocket throwing passengers back into their seats ! its definately a gearbox related problem , as the revs rise to 2000 rpm before drive is resumed, as this topic hasnt been brought up for several months has someone found a " cure " ?

I have noticed the odd delay in mine but it only happens under certain circumstances. It is when gently approaching a junction and then lifting off the throtle before immediately pressing it again. I can't decide if it's a gearbox or engine/gearbox issue as I k ow on my last car that had a manual with a diesel engine you could cause it to do something similar under the same circumstances.

I've got the new 200hp 2.4l Diesel. I have the same complaint. A couple of seconds lag when you try to do something in a hurry, and then all hell breaks loose. It's turbo lag I suspect, as the cure used to be to apply the polestar upgrade according to my local dealer.

I'm going to get the gate pressures changed on mine to see if I can get a smoother delivery of power from low revs.

I`m puzzled with this one, the demonstrator I borrowed for the weekend prior to purchase was a 2010 model D5 auto as is my own car, the demonstrator suffered from noticeable delay, my own car does not in any way, I haven`t had my car re-mapped nor has the software been updated, turbo lag on my car is non existent even when using tiptronic, I didn`t feel that the demonstrator suffered from turbo lag either just a delay in the take up of drive.

at last, someone has driven both ! and I totally aggree on it being a take up problem and nothing to do with the state of engine tune, all we need do now is find out what causes the difference
thanks dave

youre dead right, it takes just the right combination of circumstance to bring on the delay, with me its the transition from gentle to " lively" driving, if i drive " enthusiastically " from the word go the delay just doesnt happen , i have a suspiction that all xc's have it and either people are driving around the problem or they drive in such a way normally it doesnt occur

I thought that myself, so I took it in to my local dealer for a free safety check, the car was up to date with all its software, ( the previous owner had the car serviced by volvo ) I asked about the delay, and they sugested various uploads, that may or may not make a difference, I'd prefer to listen to someone who has actually cured the problem first

this is my theory. When slowing down for a few seconds, the box goes into a sort of freewheel ... (my other auto car does not)... then if you re-apply gas before full stop (when I think the box put the first gear on)... then the box is not ready and has to re-engage gear whether 2nd or 1st.. this takes about 1/2s ... not 2s.

Same experience if you put the box on neutral at traffic light and re-engage it into drive to take off... takes also 1/2s to wake up.

It is not just an Xc, delay too.

I get it on S80 6speed auto too. Remap for engine and some gearbox parameters has improved it " abit"

I reckon the Assin-warner 6speed auto isnt really the box for these cars. (it is used in Vauxhall, fiat, alfa's & pugs too) ZF would have been better
