cheers Dave - you can pick your friends, but you can't pick family!

Job done - thanks to Ben the confusion-in-law. Yup - they do all the stuff Dave - Ben's Nissan GTR (a tribute to a recently departed friend) just ran 10.9s @130mph in road trim at the opening of the drag racing season here. Not quite stock tune, but close - running on 30% ethanol its turning out 407kw at the wheels. He got a smack on the hand for breaking into 10s - anything under 11s has to have a roll cage fitted, and it weren't...

A change to 10% ethanol should fix that.

Again unfortch, I am now in Christchurch for two days so about 1,000km separates me from suspension parts, tools and Moomin.

Glad you got it sorted Ash! Just need to get it all back together now!

That's quite some whp there, about 550bhp if my brain is awake. Is that the Skyline GTR or the later Nissan GTR based (loosely) on the 350Z?

Don't you just love "accidental" rule breaking on the drag-strip?

Close to 600 whp in a road legal Nissan, whow

407 KW at wheels plus 35KW lost in drive train multiplicate with 1.36
Result is around 600 HP at engine.

The most powerful road legal car I ever drove did have 575KW noticed at the papers.

600 HP is a lot
Not if you drive a new AMG or a StupidUselessVehicle

Have a nice day, Kay

Hi Dave and Kay. Yeah, its a pretty wild amount of power. Ben is a HUGELY understated guy - quiet, introverted and self-contained. HE's not given to exaggeration. He has the slips to speak for him, doesn't need to brag...

I suspect all his energy is taken up coping with my niece.

Twin turbochargers assist. I wonder what they would do for a 230FT? ;-)

Ah, the Skyline, either R32,33 or 34, difficult to tell from that shot. That engine is capable of huge power (960bhp is achievable i believe) and capable of delivering it long term as well.

arms back in. Just the exhaust leak to do.

Gidday mhuk - South Island is spectacular, Christchurch was, now its best described as "notable". I hate it. With reason. I was in Christchurch interviewing on the day of the killer February earthquake in 2011. That was a local, near surface 6.2 and I am not ashamed to say it was a surreal and scary day.

On Tuesday this week the meeting I was attending in Christchurch got the obligatory health-and-safety, where-are-the-toilets, no-smoking-inside briefing - a part of which was something along the lines of "Its been ages since the last quake and its very unlikely, but if there is one this building is new and rated at 125% of the building code and an earthquake will just make it rock along this axis (handwaving in a generally linear motion)"

Everyone laughed.

At 3.13pm, the building rocked along that axis as a 6.7 rated quake rolled down the country from the central North Island. My staff in Christchurch think I am a real Jonah.

I am not superstitious I just recognise a jinx.

If I visit Christchurch NZ, would you PLEASE be somewhere else.
