How long to the next one and do you get a certificate of some description as well as the window sticker?

We had a window sticker thing some time back here as well, only lasted a few years though. The sticker was down the bottom of the certificate, peel it off and stick it on the inside of the screen.

The window badges were a badge of honour. The driver had taken their car to be tested and it had passed so they were a cut above other drivers.

No certificate with Royal Seal of Assent or anything unfortunately Dave! Moomin being 23 years old, he is on a 6-monthly cycle. 0 - 10 years the test cycle is annual. Snork the V50 got her last 1-year warrant this year.

Vehicle has to have a current WOF to get a new licence (bit like the tax disc). Costs have come down a lot on licence recently with safer cars costing less than unsafe - based on accident injury results by vehicle model. Snork cost about $70 for the year, Moomin was about $55 for six months.

These days we just get a printed A4 sheet of paper - the days of a proper MoT certificate with water marks and hard-to-fake-background-printing and an embossed stamp from the MoT station are long gone sadly!

For a while they did a different A4 printed sheet with the windscreen sticker on a peel-off section at the bottom, on the other side was the place where they emboss-stamped it.
Then the sticker bit and embossing went and it was a green bordered white A4 sheet then the lateset ones are just an A4 sheet that's printed out.

Apparently it's to stop theft of MoT Certificate books and MoT fraud in general. Still doesn't get round the "£100 Mr Magoo MoT" though!

Quite surprised older cars have to have a WoF every 6 months though, usually if they've survived that long they tend to be looked after although you will obviously get the hoons that don't care and drive round with missing headlamps, wings held on by pieces of string and chewing gum etc.

Is there any different rule for cars that are say 30 years old Ash?

Hi Dave - older cars (25 years or more) used to have a lower cost of road licence. Thats gone now. All cars have to have a current WOF if they are on the road. We can get an exception if the car is not used for 3 to 24 months. Lots of people have a "summer car" and go exempt from March to September.
