You can get away with it with that message if you go for a long drive at 60 mph .. It will regenerate and clear the particle filter out if everything else is working properly . If you don't do that it will come up with " Engine System Service Required and go into reduced power mode , the garage will have to force it to regenerate then .
Hi, thanks for the reply. Took the car for a long motorway drive last night and still getting both messages. Car is down on power, so I guess its back to the garage then. Any ideas how much a new dpf is to buy?

around £500 i guess , The garage can try a forced regeneration on their premises , that is the last thing you can do to try and recover it .

I will take it back to garage this week. At £500 I would happily pay just to get car right. Heard horror stories of £1000+ and having paid £700 already its starting to get pricey. Didn't expect these problems with only 85000miles. Our previous S60 had 145k without much work.

Do you have a fuel additive tank that needs topping up with Eyloys ? if so the particle filter needs changing every 75000 miles . If no tank then it should last the life of the car .

Haven't determined for definite. Just gathering info on prices before my visit to local garage tomorrow. Cant find any info on whether it uses the fluid or not. Where do I look. No reference in manual for it. I expect Volvo prices to be alot dearer.

Always get a price from volvo first often very competitive like batteries and coolant for a start . ford people buy their sensors there as they are cheaper .

Have a look in the middle of the rear axle underneath a black plastic tank ..

I don’t think the S60 2.0D (which must be a Volvo engine) ever had an additive tank around that age. Pretty sure it was the 1.6D engines in other models that had tanks then
