windscreen
I was quoted £144 for one for my saloon last year, after some "nice little darlings" decided to play toss the gravel across the front of my car when taking my disabled mother back home - very unnerving for her.
A private mobile fitter quoted £100 but only if he could get hold of some new fixing clips - little plastic things that get embedded in the mastic during installation. He added never to attempt this job if you've not done one before as they are bonded in rather that merely sitting in a rubber surround. Car temporarily stored off-road right now, after MoT lapsed, so can't give up-to-date info. Paul |

I got mine replaced free on the insurance a few years ago when it was leaking. Instead of having the leaky clip type, I asked for a '92/93 year windscreen which has a glue on strip. These are less likely to leak.
Important, make sure they use Pilkington glass- the glass company first used chinese xyg glass, and it was curved all wrong. You need to ask for this specifically, as they ALWAYS try the cheapie first. cheers, Brian |
