Default Steve Mattin Leaves Volvo

Just read the news here: http://www.autoblog.com/2009/03/27/b...eaves-company/

With everything in the air about the future of Volvo, this surely is not good news. Makes me wonder what happened, and who can possibly take over. Will it mean another drastic change in design?
I guess we'll have to wait and see...

Hope it's not because he's just heard that Geely, Chinese, have placed the winning bid for Volvos. According to a lot of reports on the net the bidding ends April, J P Morgan Chase is dealing with the auction, I happen to know one of their Directors but doubt if I'd get anything out of her but am going to give her a ring next week anyway............

Edited to say my post sounds as though Geely have already won it, they havent but are the faves in the running........

Sorry, It was early and my eyes were only half open . I probably shouldn't go on the computer before mid-day (or operate machinery, etc)! Thanks for the tip.

I am extremely shocked to hear this. I sincerely hope this is just a rumour, because if it is not, Volvo's future could seriously be put in jeopardy. Being taken over by a Chinese company is bad enough, but this combined with the departure of the man in charge of giving their image another boost will be a serious blow to the company.

My "friend of a friend" at Marlow reckons the Chinese "deal" is as good as done but I would add this is just from what they have seen/heard and isn't in any way even slightly official - make of it what you will.

Shame they couldn't "buy themselves back" and become the Volvo we love again, but if they are loosing {edit: a substantial amount} on every XC90 they sell new (shhhh, it's a secret!), then what hope is there?
