Default repairing chiped/blistered bonnet on faded paintwork.

My red 240 has quite a few stone chips on the bonnet, and now has 3 spots where its started to blister. I'm quite confident in the sanding/respraying aspect of the job, but the problem is that my 17 year old paint work is going pink so the patches will stand out.
I've got some ideas and, looked on the internet but i thought someone on here might have some experience of this and be able to shed some light on the subject, Thanks.

P.S I cant afford a respray.

When you have finished the spraying, leave it a week to harden off then give the whole car a going over with a body mop. Dont use t-cut, its rubbish, use a very light cutting compound to bring the shine back, then polish, then wax to seal. Obviously be very gentle with the mop due to the paint being quite old now and keep the paint wet while cutting it so you dont get burn marks. I use an old kitchen cleaner bottle with a squirty nozzle when i mop paint. Hope this is some help. Good luck.

Yeh Id tend to agree with the previous post - Rub down the bonnet and spray it in with the correct colour, then go around the whole car with some of bilt hambers autobalm. Its a little pricey at ~£17 but it removes any dead paint, doesnt fill stonechips with white stuff, doesnt drop powder, doesnt cut back any decent paint, doesnt mark black trim, you barely need to use any etc etc.........I swear by the stuff!

Also - have a look at the volvo 340 in this link which was only polished using autobalm!

I too am a fan of autobalm, but this is my second red car, and my only one to fade, didnt want to fork out on some incase it didnt work, but i think i will next month.
I took Cams advice and went for some colour magic, havent used it in a while, and it put a very nice shine on the bonnet especially where i had use a bit of autoglym first, came free with the car, so i did one side of the bonnet with autoglym, then went over the top with colour magic and this is the result.

Shame it was such a clear day, theres nothing to reflect in it, cant believe how much worse the rest looks in comparison.

I decided to test the paint on my sides where some numpty bumped me in a car park

Filled the hole

Painted the hole

Slight colour difference

After a little bit of feathering and a nice polish of glym and colour magic

I know theres a bit of difference in colour, but there allways has been there.
I took someone's advice because iv'e never painted red, and they recomended a dark red primer but its stayed nearly the same colour as the primer, maybe should have used white or grey, will see after a few more coats but im happy with the polishing for now just have to remember to not buy red again. Now all i need is some repalcement trim for the bottom and i'm off.

Thanks Levi.

Nice work! Dont worry about the slight colour difference - if it were yellow and pink it would still be better than rust! Did you rust kill it first though?

If the autobalm is a little expensive for you, i can highly rate Jorgens glimmer wax for a nice glossy protective layer. I bought mine from ebay for £10 and it gives a brilliant shine and the water just beads up and runs off the panels. Ive put two coats on my S60 and it looks fantastic. I do have some autobalm and its brilliant stuff. I'll apply it after a good hot wash in late autumn.

Your telling me!

Perhaps we should start praying for a new metal called 'Steeluminium' - cheap and strong like steel, light and non-ferrous (ish) like aluminium
