Free flow panel filter
When I get a new car, I always fit a half decent air filter and iam a big fan of replacement panel filters over cones as although they dont look as flash, I believe that a cone sucks in warm air from under the bonnet hence lowering the performance (apart from induction cold air kits) so getting back to panel filters, I have tried loads of different ones over the years, K&N, Pipercross, JR, ITG all on various cars and they normally cost around about £30-50 depending on model etc, I have just found this on ebay and wondered if they are any good, I have heard of Simota before but never used one, it just seem so cheap http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VOLVO-C70-V70-...item439a1e7641
Anyone else used one of these? It looks very similar to the JR panel filter I had in my previous 854 to which I might add I was very pleased with.

The statement "No Import Tax to UK Buyers" isn't true as its now illegal for a shop to sell something and mark the customs label "Gift" to avoid duty, It is not illegal for a person to buy it for you in the states then send it as "Gift" I'm thinking thats whats done to avoid duty.
It's going to cost your £29 waiting a few days to a week to get it, for £6 more you can go buy one tomorrow why would you want to wait to save £6? Doesnt make sense to me. I know thats not what you were asking to answer that Nope never heard of it, looks like a copy of K&N/Piper etc etc Charlotte For information I use two pads of different density foam as my filter gives far better throttle response and better mpg

It just seemed cheap, maybe it is of cheap quality too, the best filter i used (noticed the biggest difference) was a foam ITG panel filter on my 24 valve Alfa 156, oh and the K&N fitted to my M5. Years ago i never used to run a filter at all, twin 45s with chrome trumpets, looked and sounded the nuts, but nowadays with delicate MAFs etc i like something there, so whats the foam you used, did you do it yourself and have you sandwiched it between some sort of mesh etc?

I'm using foam from the market the top later is fairly large pore say 1.5-3mm the lower is high density pore around 0.5-1mm. I've cut both slightly larger than the box so not to get drawn down in the filter box. I'm thinking about using the mesh from a disposable BBQ to stop the two seperating

To give you some idea of how fine the lower layer is here is a photo of the remain bit [cat has been playing with it so its a touch grubby now]
PS it might not be a good idea to use this kind of foam so its at your own risk for me it works fine I'm getting 2mpg and a far quicker throttle response in both sports and economy modes: Sports with the foam 6000-6500 Sports without 5500-6000 Economy with 5000-5500 Economy without 4700-5000 I have never got to kick down yet the motorway speed limit is too low !!!!!

Good idea, the only thing i would be concerned about is that there is no support accross the area of the foam, so if it did happen to degenerate or break down large pieces could be drawn into the engine but thinking about it, on standard cars, there is like a plastic grid (I chopped mine out) just before the MAF, its supposed to smooth out the air flow, i suppose this would stop any large pieces getting past, ive seen people using nylon tights as filters in the past

Thats why I'm considering the BBQ mesh to stop any large breakdown and deforming of the foam
