Default Thermostat

I'm having a new thermostat fitted next week, plus the housing I suspect, there's been coolant loss for quite some time. The garage would normally source such things from local motor factors but I offered to source the parts myself, would avoid them having the car in then delaying because parts not available locally. Where should I go to buy decent quality parts, and is there anything I need to know when ordering, opening temperature for example? There are several on Ebay but I've no idea about quality so asking the experts here!

Phone FRF Volvo in Swansea and get the genuine article, I'd go for a 92°c one myself.

I've just fitted a Febi one, works OK. 92C is the correct temperature for UK non-turbo cars.

A generic 92°c thermostat would be just fine - this is a very low tech item :-)

So often good advice has been given. Unless there is a supply issue or a real price issue. Buy the genuine article and it is even often cheaper than the alternative and often works better. I remember a component where you suffered from that Angie. FRF are one of the tried and tested helpful Volvo dealer parts suppliers. And as I have said before, some parts are only available third party, but some crucial parts are only available from dealers so use the dealers parts departments or lose them ....

I can't remember the name of that component. It cost too much from a third party supplier and aused you grief Angie, mine was cheaper from FRF and it worked, You famously invented the wiggle test

Those who buy by price alone are the lawful prey of, some sellers. Approximate quote from Ruskin. And buying from eg China if there is an alternative surrenders the world whatever military pwer Nato et al think they have ...

Regards as always to you Angie
Stephen

Angie,

It was the air mass meter.

My memory loses Words but sometimes they return. Multiple little strokes. Deep jpy.

Best regards to you as always
