Appreciate this is an old thread, but Maplins have shut down since it was created!

Would this LED be okay? https://www.screwfix.com/p/lap-g4-ca...v-5-pack/6959v

I'm struggling to find anything as...rudimentary...as the LED originally mentioned.

Also out of curiosity...why burglar alarm cable?

That LED is massive overkill. Go to cpc (online or in store) and buy from there. I paid 12p for my LED about 3 weeks ago.

Burglar alarm cable as its a very cheap multi-core cable with thin wires. Thin wire was advantageous in this scenario as Jod was wrapping the wire as opposed to soldering.

If I were you I'd solder the connections (CPC also stock cheap soldering kits) and add a switch. Switch means you dont have to worry about getting the timing right on the dipper wire or putting the dipper into the wrong socket by mistake etc.

Think the total cost for me, including a switch was something like 70p, 40p or so without the switch.

Agree with above.

If you want to buy electronic components on-line and have them delivered, I recommend RS Components, used them many times and they're brilliant - a good web site too, only problem is that they stock such a vast range that sometimes simply choosing the bit you want can be tricky! HTH - Cheers!

Okay great, thanks for the advice. Would you be able to send over the product numbers for the parts you bought from CPC?

Seems some items have gone up a few p, but nothing drastic.

LED:
SC14319

Switch:
SW05297

Wire:
CBBR3039

Need to spend over over a tenner for free shipping, so good excuse to grab some wire strippers or soldering iron if you dont have one.

That's really appreciated, thanks.

Would it be too much to ask for a quick rundown of how to assemble it with the switch included? Appreciate this is probably the simplest electrical job ever but I'm a total novice to wiring!

Aha, for anyone looking to incorporate a switch, I found some more good instructions here: https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/fo...3pONN8qjrXQ1rc

Whoa,

Where did you get the multi plug connector from? Can you provide the suppliers name and product code? Much neater than having wires trailing all over the place!

Happy motoring!

Whoops! Just realised that I am eight years late following up Whoa's post....has anybody in the UK found one of those 16 plug OBD11 connectors? If so, where?
