Default V70 Queries

I have a '97 V70.

I am getting a very mysterious faintish rumble/knocking noise every time I turn right. It seems to be coming from under the nearside floor. I've checked everything, including the exhaust and wheel nuts. but everything looks OK.

All my doors lock OK from the keyfob, but the driver's door remains locked when I press 'UNLOCK'. Is this an expensive job which will involve changing the key identity?

Cheers

The most obvious thing would be the nearside wheel bearing, or possibly a CV joint at that side.

I used to get this occasionally with my S40 - apparently a well-known fault with the lock pin solenoid. Try grasping the top of the lock pin with a pair of pliers and pulling it up to "reset" the pin position. This used to work on the S40 albeit at the expense of a chewed-looking pin head.

Sounds like a CV joint to me. Get under the car and see if the boot is ripped.

Thank you both for replying. Much appreciated.

Toxo: Am I right in assuming the pin reset as described, is not exactly Volvo recommended!! Is there any chance I could do even more damage. Are pliers an absolute 'must'........... why not strong fingers?

FCB:

I will take a look.............when it stops raining! (I have to admit looking up your reply. and now know what you mean!!!)

Cheers

Barry

Good question - I tend to forget that the lock pins in the 40 were more or less flush with the top of th trim in the locked position. Obviously not so with the 70s...

And no it isn't a Volvo recommended things, just something I found out by trial and error! I can't guarantee that it will work with the 70 lock pins.

I thought something was odd! When you pull the V70 locking pin up....guess what....it unlocks!! Presumably the V40 cannot be unlocked manually from the inside.

So, any chance you can shed any light on my original question? Is the Volvo recommended repair expensive, and does it effect the key coding. ie. will I have to get another set of expensive keys and fobs?

droplink is a thin vertical rod (suspension component) about 12 to 18 inches long inside the wheel - grab it and see if there's any play.
(obviously turning the wheels to full lock will make access easier)

re: lock - i have similar problem on rear door, imagine it is either a wiring issue or a faulty solenoid - no lock change required unless someone knows more?

Almost dry enough to inspect these CVjoints and drop links!

Am I right in presuming these items are only on the front twheels?
