Locking wheel bolt key
Does anyone know who makes the locking wheel bolts and where I could get a new key? The P2 cars where made by Mcguard I could get a new key via them. Are the P3s the same?
Thanks

Not sure but to be honestly just get rid of those things. They end up stripping and become a real nuisance .

No problem with dealers but my expereicne of them In general is they are not interested unless your buying a new car or you want something easy like an oil change. I find the whole of the motor trade is like this!
We went to look at a Volvo selekt car that was £8000. The sales guy could not even be bothered to come show it to us, did not even get out his seat just unlocked it through the window and chucked us the keys. Yet another customer walks in looking at a nearly £25,000 v70 and there all over them like a rash! My VW van, it's lease company van so basically the dealer doesn't see me as a customer and just ****es me around with that to! The motor trade stinks really! Sorry rant over

Quote:
A dealer will sort you out with a Key if you still have the McGuard keys .Or McGuard are very helpful dealing direct in Germany .send them a detailed picture of your bolt head . Always wise to have a set of locking bolts as even a basic set of alloy wheels and tyres will cost you nearly £2000 to replace . If you have a xc90 make that £4000 !

My s80 had locking wheel nuts on when I bought it. Had to have the rear pads changed but the mcguard key was all chewed up and worn out. All I did was take it to a local tyre shop who hammered a brass flat head nut type thing, effectively making a new key and took them all off. Cost me 20 pounds for the service which is a fiver a corner. Then I just bought some ordinary wheel bolts and luckily Iv been trouble free since.

Alloy wheels are so common these days that thieves are less interested in them, especially old ones.On my previous cars I just abandoned the locking bolts and removed a potentially serious problem that might occur in the middle of nowhere in the middle of the night, but then my previous cars actually had proper spare wheels to change!

I came to the same conclusion and took mine off. Can't remember in the last five years seeing a car on bricks or whatever after having wheels nicked. And second hand wheels are pretty cheap these days. Last edited by CTCNetwork; Jun 18th, 2017 at 12:51. Reason: Needless quote removed. |

Hope so ! The insurance won't pay out with standard factory locking bolts taken off .
