Car Wash Mishap , windscreen Rubber
I used an ARC Car Wash (which I normally find excellent) but unfortunately this time the rubber strip above the windscreen was partially displaced (This part looks like a very long wiper blade) I put it back but it doesn't look right .
Should there be more than one piece of rubber as the part I have does fall short of the length of the screen? I've been told the rubber here is just cosmetic and the screen should still be sealed water tight. Would Autoglass be worth a try or a long trip to the dealers instead? Many Thanks in advance. Mine doesn't have such a strip, but it does leak although that is due to poor bonding (which Volvo are supposed to be sorting out for me) so I don't think it's a vital part.

Happened to me. I pulled the whole strip off, cleaned the strip and recess and refitted it with bonding sealant (can't remember which product). Been fine now for a few years. Mine was also "short".

The rubber seal can shrink with age. Fine when originally fitted . My 2008 didn't have the seal but had it on my P2 and looked much tidier.

Mine doesn't quite fill the entire gap between the inside of the A-pillars, possibly it's shrunk with age. But it's wider than the straight top edge of the glass, so any water running past the sides of the rubber strip will fall down the side of the windscreen, and not collect on top of it.
After observing the recent replacement of my windscreen, I would say this rubber strip is there to stop a pool of water sitting above the glass, and possibly also to reduce wind noise. As already said, the waterproof seal is between the glass and metal edge of the roof.
