I think a Gates cam belt kit is a decent replacement part. They have a good reputation.
Agreed. Whilst I always fit Volvo cambelts if I can, if for some reason I can't get hold of a genuine one in time, I'll fit a Gates or Continental belt.

Cosmicbike - re the oil, I usually fill my T5 engines with 10W40 in the summer and 5W40 in winter, (I tend to change the oil every 3-4k miles) so as yours is higher mileage, I'd be sticking with 10W40 year round as well. I change the oil filter once a year using either Volvo or Mann filters, as Mann manufacture the OEM ones (or at least they used to back in the 90s).

I used a Mann 917 filter as I'd read they make the OEM anyway. Oddly enough the same filter that fits my 240.
My Capri has always been OK on Gates belts, so similarly if I couldn't get Volvo I'd have taken that option.

I would imagine that one of the big manufacturers ie GATES SKF INA possiblity make the belt kit that Volvo use and supply

Well she goes well enough, has done a couple of trips to work on nights with no issues beyond a knock from the NSF, I've had her in the air and all the usual places are tight. Noises are awkward to find, so I'll check the back end too when I get the time.
Engine mounts are next, the top is split, and the lower torque mount rear bush also, so they are on route along with rear camshaft seals as there is evidence of leaking there.
The auto 'box is shifting nicely, but with nearly 138k on the clock I think an oil change using the drain/fill method is a good idea which I'll do when time permits.

I put a Gates kit on mine plus aux belt, I’ve used Mann or Crossland filters over the years.

Mines been mothballed for a couple of years but hope to get it back on the road soon.

Got the rear camshaft seals changes this morning. Inlet side wasn't too bad but the exhaust had lots of oil leaking out. Neither of the seals removed felt particularly hardened though. We'll see how it goes.
Next challenge is the upper engine mount. I've gone OEM replacement so look forward to trying to press that in....

Engine mount done. Old one I cut out, nice and easy. New one getting pressed in, remarkably easy with round the house tools. Combination of 60mm and 75mm hole saws with M10 studding worked a treat.

Grabbed a couple of hours after a night shift. Got the lower torque mount replaced (subframe to transmission), the rear bushing was shot. Also new dizzy cap and rotor.
Still trying to find my knocking noise. Checked the back end and found the rear exhaust hanger failed, so centre box back jumping around freely which seems to be a common issue.

Exhaust secured. Drove to work this morning, still have knocking noise. I've had both front and rear lifted, tried all the bushes and found no slack. More looking to do..

I would change both drop links, just because they are very cheap and easy to do. These links do make a knocking noise even when you can't feel any play. They only need to have a small amount of play to make quite a noise!
