Default Dieseling a 240 or possible LPG

Hi all
i am thinking of dieseling one of the 240's, Which diesel engine is the most powerful and where would i find it. Peter Milnes I recall you mentioning that your 940 has 145 bhp, would this engine fit and would it be economically viable,
What about the earlier 740 TD's, what kind of power, economy are we talking??
Would it be worth it from an economy pont of view,it is at present a B200E with aroung 30mpg or would i be better off LPGing it.
has anybody any experience of LPG.
All suggestions appreciated

It would be perfectly practical to fit a 1994 onwards D24TIC engine but you may have to get the intercooler and hosing from one of the specialist suppliers. I think the standard front pipe will clear the steering gear but you may need to get one specially bent. In normal form they produce 122 bhp but beware of one fitted with EGR as it is a no-no with these engines. You would also find a two-box exhaust system (preferably stainless steel) would be of benefit. Mine has been tuned a little and is not available from dealers or VW/Audi in this state of tune. The problem with LPG is the extra tank and that the system needs to be profesionally installed and thoroughly tested. It also restricts your movements between UK and Continent if you want to use the quick way through the Chunnel. No tunnels between Eire and Wales/Scotland so no problems with this crossing.

All the best, Peter

Thanks, it seems the 940TD engine so is the way to go,If i do it i will buy a complete or semi complete car so that way i have all the bits and bobs should i need them,I remember you mentioning some huge figure of bhp that coud be achieved with modification, what modification is required,Yet again im not satisfied with something semi-standard has to be totally unique!!!
