If your software version allows the loading of downloaded map updates, you should be able to do it yourself. If you cannot and the Volvo dealer cannot either, you may find that they will blame the hardware and suggest that it is replaced with new. I had this happen when I asked them to upgrade my earlier software to accept USB uploading but they were unable to get the unit to do so and they replaced the whole sat nav unit under the Selekt second used warranty complete with the new software and the latest map. This was all free of charge, but I did have the warranty. It seems that some sat navs of that period just don't want to co-operate due to a hardware glitch that doesn't show itself if you don't want to load updated maps via the internet.

As I wrote above, he has software 1040, and I got 1100, when I received one of the first editions of the software that supported USB download for free.
I think his software isn't new enough. |

But if he pays the dealer for the latest software update, his system should then allow him to upload map updates taken from the internet. I'm just telling him that my experience was that although my sat nav had worked perfectly under the older software, it did not allow the dealer to upgrade the software to permit internet map updates and they ruled that this was a hardware glitch in the unit and it had to be changed. I didn't pay but the cost would have been £350 if I hadn't had a Selekt warranty. Since this fault only comes to light if you try to update the software, there may be more sat nav units out there harbouring this problem unknown to their owners.

I will deliver it to Volvo, and they will update to the latest map, so I hope it will be fine

Can’t update software
I paid my dealer £40 to update software to allow free uploads of maps on my 2012 XC70 D4 Nav. So now software version is 1210 map version V30.13.02 map marked Europe. I have downloaded map version for My2013 to 2 different USB’s and software did not upload, recognised usb and clicked OK but nothing. Went back to dealers who tried everything, deleting everything and putting it back on system, but could not update, they say it’s the head and will cost £1100 to replace, so not worth it from my viewpoint, shame.

I did the update very early, so I got navigator version 1100. They withdrew that later, said there was some issue. Then they came back with something newer.
But I've not had a single issue updating my maps via the USB after this install. So what was bad in 1100 I don't know. Doesn't seem to affect my car. |
