Question Quirky Keyless Entry

Hey Guys,

Today I went to my car to open it and put my thumb on the handle and the indicators came on and it made a sound but it didn't unlock the door, for some strange reason though it opened the left wing mirror and kept the right one closed. Then I pressed it again and it opened properly.

Have you guys had any weird quirks with the keyless entry like that on your SPA vehicles?

On mine I just pull the handle to open. Only use the finger touch on the square to lock.

It does say somewhere in the manual not to touch the lock and unlock surfaces at the same time when opening / closing

I used to put my thumb on the outside, while gripping the inside and all sorts of weirdness ensued.

Mine was acting up in the same way. I changed the battery in the remote and it sorted it.

Maybe I put my thumb on the thing and tried to open it and it unlocked the other doors but had a meltdown with mine.

Will check that out thanks!

Do you think that if I went up to the door and pressed the button and pulled the handle at the same time, it would fail to open that door, but it would unlock and open the mirror on the passenger door?

Thats what it did the other day I think, or the left mirror just stayed open on its own for some reason.

It's quite possible because although you appear to be doing the two things simultaneously there will be a small timing difference leading to unpredictable results.

The inner handle for unlocking is 'proper' touch sensitive whereas the lock button requires some pressure to be applied for activation. Pulling the handle to unlock activates a simple electrical switch. This is to act as backup in case the inner handle touch panel becomes faulty, something that was (is?) common on Mercs with keyless entry (my own Merc had this problem and a replacement handle is surprisingly expensive).

I often find myself having to pull the handle twice as in the first pull I’ve pulled it before the car had unlocked.

Also when I lock the car by any means about 5 seconds later I hear it lock again but with no indication. Does anybody else’s do that?
