Default XC90 T8 Dec16. Electric drive problem.

Just a week after the annual service, the car has developed a problem with the electric drive. Usually at low speeds accelerating, the car will lose power and your reaction is to hit the accelerator harder. The petrol engine then cuts in. Very irritating and our local dealer doesn’t have a courtesy car for 3 weeks. I can see this being a long repair.

The car’s been impeccable for over 2 years. December 16 car. Anyone else had this problem?

ERAD clutch fault - will require ERAD removal and inspection of internal ERAD transmission components. If no visible damage to ERAD transmission gears will require ERAD transmission replacement. Vehicle should be on latest software with recent service to prevent further problems.

A day of a job but expect to be in for a couple of days inorder to diagnose, repair and test.

What causes this unit to fail, the way people drive or certain type of driving style? People how use the electric motor a lot, or people who never charge it so it is ICE cutting in and out like a yo yo?

Have they upgraded this unit yet, or just replacing like for like.

Be good to know, or someone who is having theirs done to ask some questions regarding the future if it will happen again?

I have just experienced the exact same situation on my XC90. Also a week after service. What was the outcome of your issue? Has anyone else experienced this issue, lag on acerbating from idle or very low speed?

Best to read the sticky post at the top of this forum. It is titled something like "anyone with a T8 nearly 4 or 5 years old read this post".

It will explain everything.
