Default Service due before lease ends - still applicable during this

I'd appreciate people's opinions on this.

My lease is due to end on 22nd June. I have a service due before that (30 day message just appeared on the dash).

I don't want to travel to my 40 mile away dealer during this and noticed from another thread that Volvo are allowing 15 months between services just now. Do you think I will be penalised if I hand it back without the service?

Thanks for replying. Yes I did see that and commented in it but it didn't answer my specific question as the original poster had an extension to their lease.

I'm just wondering if the 3 month servicing extension also applies to the end of the lease. So if it's ok for me to have had 1 service in a 2 year lease?

I suppose it depends when the lockdown restrictions are eased in Scotland - in England it's possible that Dealerships will reopen on 1 June which would be OK in your circumstances if you lived in England.

Your lease ends on 22 June, but if Scotland is still in full lockdown mode at that point, it is unlikely that your car will be collected by the lease company anyway.

I think that you need to have a conversation with the lease company to see what their procedures are for collection in lockdown circumstances - you obviously can't have the car serviced if Dealer's are not open.

Volvo dealers are opening at a rapid rate , about 80% open so far probably all of them by the end of next week

Thanks - I have just received a letter from my dealer saying that their service department is open to the public.

However, if I don't have to spend £450+ on a service just before handing the Volvo back, I won't.

Regardless of whether or not I can service the car, I'm wondering if I must service the car or risk penalties.

My interpretation of the current 15 month service schedule is that I don't have to get it serviced prior to handing it back, but am I correct to assume this?

If you are having another 2 year lease deal, I suggest you have your first service carried out around 28 days after the first year anniversary - the second service won’t then show as being due before you hand the car back on it’s second anniversary.

It would also work on a 3 year lease deal too, of course.

My Dealer advised me to do that when I collected my previous car on a PCH deal. It seems that this is quite a normal procedure on lease deals.

Hope that helps for the future, I realise it doesn’t help with your current situation.

Just called Volvo Financial Services. They have confirmed that I will not be charged for a missed service - good customer service and I'm happy 👍
