2008 V50 2.0D SE Lux 41,000 miles - 41-43 mpg normal driving. 36-39 mpg in a hurry and 47-50 mpg with economy driving in mind. Never cracked 500 miles on a tank and stopped last week (ran out near home) with 446 miles on a tank. Passat Bluemotion ordered so will see how that compares.

2007 S40 2.0D SE Lux
44k miles 48.4 MPG over last 7000 miles (always brim to brim) Around 500 miles per tank, 550 if I'm brave. Few years ago had a 2004 54 V50 2.0D SE company car, 45.4 MPG over 10k miles but this was mainly motorways and cruising at 80/85 MPH

V50 mpg survey
V50 2005 SE.
Only had the old girl a few weeks, but averaged 48 using mostly B and C roads with a good blast up the Stow road a few days ago. Fuel warning light cam on and had at least 2 gallons left. could have done about 500 miles on the tank no bother. |

On my previous Volvo a 55 plate S40 2.0D I used to average about 47mpg when my work involved a 45 mile mainly motorway commute. It dropped to about 37mpg when I changed my job and had a 10 mile all urban commute. Driving style does really make the biggest difference. The most I recorded to red was 462 miles. I think red is about 2 gal remaining so you can go a lot further, but at about 2 litre remaining the engine management starts to play you up to get you to refuel. It cuts the engine out very soon after.
On a stightly differant tack there has been a lot of debate about trip computer v brim to brim, but what about the actual miles you use. If I measure my speed with my satnav 70mph equates to about 73mph on the speedo. This suggests an over recording of about 4% on miles recorded by the odometer (assuming the same source is used for the speedo). So any calculation done on mpg (either computer or brim to brim) will be 4% high e.g. 45mpg is actually 43.2mpg. Am I right in this logic? |
