Default HID's/Wiper motor

Hi all

So after years of driving with crappy headlights and spending a small fortune on different bulbs including nightbreakers & philips xtreme etc, i thought i would give an Hid conversion kit a try. Iv'e gone down the ebay route as don't want to spend a fortune http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/3217672964...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT and have gone for a 6000k - 55w kit. Although these are plug and play, iv'e been looking for info on fitting them to Volvo's specifically as we all know what fussy things they are especially when it comes to their electrical system! Anyhow, iv'e been finding stuff about the wiper motor getting destroyed as it shares the same earth as the right hand side headlamp and advise to connect the negative wire from the Hid kit to the chassis instead of plugging it into the original bulb connector and only use the live into said connector?
Can anyone give me some advice on this as i don't want to fry my wiper motor!

Many thanks

Buy a half decent hid kit or you may be buying a few ect..... I earthed each box onto the chassis as well as the neg on the strut tower.

Hi, thanks for the reply, I don't suppose I could ask for some pics of how you did yours? I'm quite ok with spanners but get a bit nervous when it comes to electrics lol!

.... Ive actually just removed my HID kits, your just going to get yourself into problems if a bulb goes ... either you'l need a new part of the kit that you cant get from a shop or your wiper motors will go. it your set on getting a kit ... make sure it has a resistor thing or proven for volvo so that the wiper motor issue doesnt happen. For me, ive just installed new projector lenses and angled them a bit high and its much better!

just changing to HID with the same projectors wont change how much you can see ... it will light the ground infront of you better but you still wont be able to see that far. adjust your lenses or get some new projectors in

No pics but more advice really, make sure you create a good seal around the hole you have to make in the back of the headlamps. If you dont you'l end up with frustrating condensation problems.

Its relatively straight forward (Pretty much plug in an play) Get a good clamp down on those ballast to stop annoying rattling or moving around ... apart from that good luck, what temp did you go for?

As you rightly so, you need to directly Earth the right hand side hid to the chassis.....there is a handy area with bolt head underneath the the same light unit.

The wiper motor will fry itself if not differently earthed as the hids will spike the Earth on the turret and that's what frys the motor, earthing to the chassis will irradiate that issue. The only other way is to pay Volvo £60 to deactivate the daytime auto lights.

When I had mine in I started with the Earth on the chassis by a small hole in the rear of the lamp cover and fed the wire through and added connectors to each end to make the correct connections. I later had the lights deactivated.

You can get all the hid bits inside the headlight unit if you take your time, I know I had it all in the unit!

Finally, I did have issues with when the lights were on, they flickered slightly but enough to notice in the dark so I bought some additional capacitors but they come standard in the can us units which you have bought.

Thanks guys for the info and advice, I have gone for 6000k with 55w ballast kit but not sure if 5000k would be better, can change the bulbs at a later date if I need to? I have also got philips T10 6000k sidelight bulbs in so should match nicely. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/PHILIPS-XT...2Py72cDbvr52QA Am I correct in thinking that the negative from the kit is what I earth and just connect the positive into the original H7 bulb plug?

Thanks again

Just for reference OEM bulbs are 4300K (Philips brand) and give a good daylight color with a slight blue tinge. 4000-5000k will give a strong bluey tinge and 6000k will be purple. See how you get on but I would suggest 4300K phillips for the best on the road color.

I have the 55w with 6k and find them nice and white. I did order another set of 5k bulbs because I didn't like the blue look but the 6k 55w look like stock xenons 👍

As for the connecting, I put both spades in where you would originally put the bulb and take an additional earth from the box to the chassis as the instructions told me to.

I'm thinking about changing my side lights so can take pictures if your stuck
