thanks DTR, will try to do the same. I was hoping my idea with outside socket was good aswell (as I managed to fit all of the components into the headlamp and its really neaty this way) but I guess it wouldnt work the same way then.

do I have to do it for both headlamps or just the right side (D/S) one?

I have done both sides just to be safe as not sure what earths are possibly shared on the passenger side. I looked at fitting mine into the headlamp but thought it would be a little too tight and was worried about the heat from the ballasts!

ok, will do both sides then, just to be safe. Did you drill into the body and used o-connector for mass cable or is there less invasive way?

As for the fitting, I was able to squeeze ballast+igniter and external anti-flicker module all into the lamp. I placed ballast at the bottom, due to its weight, and kinda wrap other cables around the end of the projector lens. Its a tight fit but easily done. I was wondering about heat dissipation myself - cant say if I am doing right or not, time will tell. As I drive on lights minimum 2.5hrs every day for last month since I have it fitted there, it will be pretty clear soon if It was bad idea or not. Will be pulling the lamps out when doing this mass cable so I will check if there was any damage due to heat and can let you know if you are interested.

If you remove the headlamp, there is a 13mm nut which I connected the earth using an o connector and then fed the wire through underneath so it came up behind the lamp when it was refitted. I went down the route of drilling through the back covers of the headlamp and placing the ballasts under the wings on a kind of shelf at the front. I had to pull the earth from the hid kit back through the rubber sealing grommet to connect the separate earths.

Ps, although I have already done mine, it would be interesting to know how they fared being fitted inside the lamp

Thanks for the tip with that screw, will save me unnecessary drilling into the body. Will report on the condition of the inside of the lamps when I do the wiring trick, I hope there will be nothing to report though

Just to let you know - have checked both lamps yesterday and there is absolutely zero issues after driving with ballasts in them. No burnt smell, no melts, no indications of any overheating problems etc. Either the temperature is not that high, comparing to halogen bulb, or lamps are cooled down by driving.
Either way I think its safe to say that its OK to do so.

cheers.

The only issue you will get is when it's Autumn/winter and cold outside. The headlights will fog up inside. They did this on mine and was remedied by a small, sachet of silica gel inside the unit.

A friend of mine has bought some of the LED kits, not the cheap nasty ones but a decent set, around £90 ... same money as some of the better HID kits and well im very impressed with the results! the cut off is perfect, the aim is spot on and seem to be less dazzling to on coming drivers.
i would say they are as good as the DIP Beam in my Dads Range rover which has Factory HIDS and anyone with a RR will know the lights are absolutely brilliant!
Ive been through 1 set of Philips xtreme vision (lasted 7 months) and im now in to a set of Osram cool blue intense which are less (Blue) than the Philips but the light does seem to go further!

I find out this week whether ill be getting my uncles Mercedes C-class and if its a no then il for sure be getting a set of the LED kits.

They have come down in price but i think this is the kit hes installed !
