I'd try a cheap set of pads first, you may get lucky.

Are the discs size 288mm? I want to order them so I can fit them when I'm back at home.
Mister Auto is great if you don't want to stay genuine but maintain quality.

You can have discs, pads and handbrake shoes for under £100 and best of all, they're brands that you've actually heard of.

They're not a dealer but they are a great seller of cheap genuine parts.
I got my wishbones from them.

Lots of great advice, I will be keeping the car long term. I've just bought it, my other car was beyond repair. Buying the car and Christmas has left me skint! I've also got to do the front brakes and cam belt. I want good brakes, my kids will be in the car but I also have to balance the books!

So you have the Gen3.....

This is the Phase2 (P2 or Mk2 if you like) forum, easy mistake as your on the cross-over year.

Gen3 forum here.. http://www.volvoforums.org.uk/forumdisplay.php?f=112

Do you have the electronic handbrake (EPB)? If so then this may help you.http://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showth...ight=handbrake

Oh I have a 2007 but it is not the new shape. It was first registered on 30/04/2007 according to the v5. I presumed that my model was the MK1 and the latest model is the MK2. I don't know what P2 means. I'm completely confused know! It has the normal ratchet handbrake btw.

Ok, we'll just back up a bit.... when you said the Mk2 parts weren't suitable i presumed you'd got your models mixed up,

P1 is Phase 1... 96>99
P2 is Phase 2... 00>07
Gen3 is............07>current or just changed?

You have the P2 (MK2 if you like) so the parts offered to you here are correct.
In fact you have a face-lift P2, which occured somewhere 04/05 and i believe some refer to it as a P2.5

If your doing the dishes or feeding the bairns ignore the below...

I notice you are new here and when we see your name viewing there is a massive delay in communication, a handy wee tip is to scroll down to the very bottom of the page and click on the forum jump bar, this refreshes the page and you/we can communicate quicker, or just hit the refresh tab on your main toolbar.
Not doing this just leaves you staring at the same un-refreshed pages...

I ordered these off Ebay a few weeks ago:-
Ebay # 111799182698 (rear pads £12.01)
Ebay # 141803516883 (288mm rear discs £22.36 for the pair)

Make sure they're compatible with your car.
They fitted fine on my MY03 D5.
Both pads and discs are ATE and good quality.

For the brake shoes I went genuine Volvo and used a Mintex spring / fastener kit.
From memory, about £25 for the shoes and £6 for the spring kit.
I also fitted shoe adjusters which were an additional £15 or so.

And not worth fitting anything else in my opinion because they last. I've fitted aftermarket to both my cars and my s60 has worn the rears out in 30,000 miles. Euro car parts do some good dealers on branded aftermarket to sometimes.

I would however deffinatley fit genuine hand brake shoes, the material is softer than aftermarket ones and grips better. Loads of people complain about the handbrake on these cars but with genuine shoes there is no problem. Fitted them to my s60 and it will hold on the steepest of hills. My v70 has aftermarket fitted and its handbrake is rubbish.

Personally if your keeping the car for the long term then find the best price you can on genuine and fit that. On both my cars I've fitted aftermarket and I'm at the point now where I'm sick of replacing stuff that i know genuine would still be in serviceable condition.
Thanks, he has put the price up just after I got in contact with him. Will have to give these a miss but I will get the genuine handbrake shoes.
