C30 Engine : - Black Death

Seems to be Injector 3 & 4.

But does anyone know how I can clean up the outside first, then I can look into getting a garage to sort the Injectors.

I'm no Mechanic--

But I'm presuming the Seal for INjector 3 & 4 have blown.

Whell that sucks....

Not 100% sure, but maybe its possible to just carefully wash it as is...? All the connectors I have removed on 2.0d so fas has been with a seal on the connector. Of coirse pressure washer will blast past it, but maybe a simple sprayer and a cloth/soft brush can be used for cleaning...

It looks like the injector seals have been failing to do their job for quite a while. It's not a difficult job to replace the seals yourself, but cleaning the carbon build up can be very labour intensive. This is why some garages will charge a fair amount to do the job.

A selection of flat blade screwdrivers, lots of rags/kitchen roll, Mr.Muscle or an alternative cleaner suitable for carbon and an old vacuum cleaner should be all you need to get the cleaning done, but you will need to remove the rocker/cam cover in front of the injectors to gain decent access. The area immediately surrounding each injector should be absolutely spotless so as to prevent the possibility of carbon falling into the cylinders when you remove the injectors.

This guy did a good vid of cleaning in on a merc engine. It’s a pretty well known problem on sprinters. Some of it may translate to the Volvo engine.
