Default Winter Tyres. The ulimate Go Faster Mod

The Ultimate Go Faster Mod.
Whereas most mods usually follwo the law of diminishing returns this is not true of winter tyres. Wet and cold, not jsut for snow. However, near me the 4x4s get stuck. I don't. I can stop too. No dearer either. Get a used set of rims and wheels on the Bay of E, it won't matter too much what state the rims are in, if they're rough they'll be cheaper. They'll be covered in poo anyway.

Your ovlov is no good with 240bhp, but in a hedge. If you won't fit them and you call your car quick, you're an idiot. Argue not, you've lost already.

Yup, my sister-in-law had to abandon her 1 Series this morning along with a few others. My brother however in the knackered old shed of a Citreon Berlingo which we call the 'Var', is on skinny winter tyres and is flying about all over the place past all the hopeless fools that are stuck.

In our case it was an MX5 which provoked WTF head-turns as we whizzed around.

Not just for snow. Yes, forgot to say. Narrower is good in the wet. The Swedes know all about cold. Doubt me. See your manual. Not essential but dropping a size is usually recommended too. Skinny is better

Oh I don't know - I always got the impression that having my lardy arse in the car helped with traction

yeh i have my winters on as well now. Still used to wiz around on normal tires in the snow ... just a case of momentum and knowing your roads, once you stop on any incline with no winters ... you'l never get going again.

do you guys usually run these tires high or low pressure? I never know which is the best.

I lookeed this up and it confirm s my thoughts. Standrd pressure. Winters work because of softer rubber on cold and wet roads. That's why winter grip better. Summers are too hard in the compound.
When it gets snow laden because of the sipes (correct spelling?) in the things, these clog and aid grip because the tyre is now using ice to grip ice. Lower inflation would work on mud, because of the in reverse rucked-up carpet effect, only that won't work on ice. Sipes trapping shards of ice, gripping more ice is where it's at, and you'd wan the tyre to maintain it's shape, not distort it to do this.
